Recently a friend of mine had run a quiz on orkut by showing a photo of Lorena Bobbit and asked folks to identify her. The clue said that she represented a violent form of feminism. Answers ranged from "my ex" to "Mona Lisa with a makeover". Somehow the whole stuff jogged a chain of memories and I was compelled to pen a few lines on her. Agree that Lorena Bobbit is not the ideal thing to start a blog but somehow I felt that people should remember her just like they remember Jack the Ripper, John Lennon, Babe Ruth or (even) Hillary Rodham Clinton.
To a prison she was sent
As lawyers let the gory facts roll by,
To a renowned bishop, the judge did send
Honestly, when you made me read it the first time. I thought why the subject but now when i read it as an ode ..oh my ..its actually nice ! Sometimes you dont give common people who took judgement in their hands so much importance..but hey owe an ode..for they fought on. A very well written piece.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a scene in "Teen Deewarein", a dramatic movie directed by Nagesh Kukunoor.
ReplyDeleteJuhi Chawla plays a character who's husband treats her like a doormat, while she loves him, and puts up with his abuse, sexual and mental. As part of her documentary on the lives of three criminals sentenced to death-sentence, she gets to interview Jackie Shroff. Jackie, a philosophical educated person, says, Everybody is imprisoned, some by these prison walls, some by walls they built for themselves. This has such a profound effect on her, that she realizes how to fight her way out of the abusive relationship.
No, she doesn't resort to bobbitizing...to know more, see the movie. :-)
vsood - Definitely I would love to see the movie - I had heard about it for quite some time but your synopsis makes it very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks Vandana for appreciating.
